We are embarking on an exciting journey to revitalize our downtown riverfront as part of a comprehensive economic recovery plan. As we set our sights on this transformative endeavor, we recognize the importance of gathering input and feedback from our community to ensure that the development reflects the needs, desires, and aspirations of all residents.

The Economic Recovery Plan is being completely funded by the DCEO RISE Grant that the City was awarded in 2023 and is focused on economic recovery through revitalization of the riverfront district in conjunction with other initiatives aimed at improving Freeport. The existing riverfront presents a unique opportunity to take advantage of an under-utilized natural resource to create a focal point for the future economic development and growth of Freeport. Objectives of the initiative include a greater ability to attract and retain the next generation of Freeport leaders, increased marketability of Freeport to residents and businesses, creation of a more desirable tourism and visitor environment, enhanced enjoyment of Freeport by its residents, development of successful multiuse facilities in the area, and many more potential benefits. Please note that the natural rise and fall of river waters is being accounted for and carefully incorporated into every step of this project.

In-person public meetings were held earlier this year and feedback was provided from Stakeholders and community members identifying potential improvements that could help meet the objectives of the plan. At this time, we would again like to reach out to our community members, as your perspective is invaluable in shaping the future of our city. We invite you to participate in this brief online survey to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions for the downtown riverfront development. Your input will help inform the decision-making process and ensure that the development aligns with the priorities and values of our community. All of this feedback will be essential in the success of the ongoing development of the riverfront plan and will be utilized in subsequent phases to help develop an overall master plan.
