Welcome to the Iowa City Comprehensive Plan Engagement Website! The City of Iowa City is excited to begin the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan to create a long-term vision for the community through 2050 and beyond. This roughly 18-month process will include many opportunities for public engagement and feedback.

This website will serve as an information and engagement hub throughout the project. Be sure to check back on the latest updates and provide input on the plan!

Comprehensive Plans are future-oriented documents that guide growth and development within a community. Comprehensive Plans help cities make decisions about growth, development, and investments. The public can use the Comprehensive Plan as a guide to better understand the community they live in and see the strategies being employed to improve the quality of life for residents. While the plan will be comprehensive, it is not meant to be a static, unchanging document. The plan should be referenced often, reviewed annually, and updated as needed to better reflective changing community conditions.

Throughout this 18-month process, there will be a variety of ways to provide input and feedback! Find the opportunities that work best for your schedule, and we look forward to connecting with you. Some engagement opportunities include: this interactive engagement website, community listening sessions (5 meetings), stakeholder interviews and focus group meetings, strategic opportunity charettes (2 charettes), pop-up events (5 events), and public visioning workshops (5 workshops). These events for Phase 2 are all scheduled to take place in the Spring and Summer of 2025, so come back to this website for more details on these upcoming events!

There will be additional opportunities in Phase 4 to review the draft plan recommendations and provide feedback to the team.
